Health and Safety at Work: Parliament calls for a new strategy before the elections

The EU Strategy on Health and Safety at Work expired in 2012 and the Commission hasn’t fulfilled yet its commitment to adopt a new one, reminded Parliament President Martin Schulz in a letter to Commission President Barroso sent on Wednesday. Parliament calls for the adoption of a new strategy before the European elections.

In its resolution of 15 December 2011 on the mid-term review of the 2007-2012 EU strategy on health and safety at work, as well as in its resolution of 4 September 2013 on the European strategy on health and safety at work, Parliament urged the Commission to present a new strategy as soon as possible, convinced of the need to further develop the European dimension of this policy.

The adoption of the strategy, lately foreseen in April, might be delayed again.

On behalf of MEPs, President Martin Schulz sent a letter on Wednesday 2 April to President Barroso, asking the Commission to show determination in fulfilling its commitment and to adopt the strategy before the end of the current parliamentary term.
